Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and it should be healthy and filling. This curd sandwich is one of my favourite breakfast recipes. It is super easy to prepare and tastes heavenly. It is a perfect solution to hunger pangs in a healthy way.

Adding curd in multiple ways can be extremely beneficial for health. It is good for digestion, strengthening our immunity, reducing blood pressure and also rich in calcium and good for bone health. Adding veggies is also an add-on to a healthy diet. We can also use whole wheat bread or brown bread for this recipe.

How did Sanchwiches get their name?

Any bread enclosed convenience food with different types of fillings and dressed with a variety of condiments come to our mind when we think of sandwiches. Before starting with this recipe let us dive deep into the history of sandwiches.

The sandwich is named after John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich and an 18th century English Aristocrat who started a craze for eating beef between two slices of toast. It is said that he ordered his valet to bring him meat tucked between two pieces of bread. He was fond of this form of eating because it allowed him to continue playing cards and without getting his hands greasy from eating meat with his bare hands.

The Wall Street Journal has described it as Britain’s “biggest contribution to gastronomy”

Some amazing facts about Sandwiches-

  • Around 12 billion sandwiches are eaten every year in the UK.
  • The world’s largest sandwich weighed 5440 pounds.
  • The most expensive sandwich commercially available is the “Quintessential Grilled Cheese” which sells for US $214 at Serendipity3 in New York.
  • Sandwich is also a town in Kent, although the name has no direct connection with a sandwich.
  • In 2008, an attempt to beat the record for the world’s biggest sandwich failed when the impatient crowd ate it before it was measured.

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoon Hung Curd
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped Onion
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped Tomato
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped Capsicum

  • 1/4 teaspoon Cumin powder

How to prepare hung curd-

I put some curd in a cotton cloth, remove the excess water, tied and kept it inside the refrigerator for two hours which gave me thick curd. We can also use a muslin cloth to drain out the water. It is a great replacement for mayonnaise, rich in protein and good for health.

How to prepare-

  • Firstly rinse all the veggies and finely chop them.
  • Add hung curd to the mixture.
  • Season it with ¼ teaspoon black pepper, cumin powder and salt or you can add as per taste.
  • Take a bread slice. Brush butter on the same and smear the hung curd mixture on the bread slice.
  • Cover it with another bread slice.
  • Toast it on the toaster.
  • Serve hot.

Variations-

You can add grated cheese or paneer (cottage cheese) to this stuffing as well. Grated cucumber and grated carrot can also be added as per your taste.
